A workshop by the interdisciplinary group StonyTellers, as part of the biennial Matter of Art 2026, invites participants to explore the Tusculum Garden together from less conventional perspectives.

Participants will choose a specific “actor”—human or non-human (a plant, a place, an object, a scent, etc.)—and, working in groups, will observe, listen to, and sensitively explore a selected corner of the garden. The goal is to identify the needs, relationships, and dynamics unfolding in the garden—which we typically overlook—and to translate them into a short collective statement from the perspective of the chosen agent. The final sharing session will open up new ways of interpreting the space and provide inspiration for its long-term care.

The workshop is facilitated, with no emphasis on acting. It builds on attention to the environment, work with language, and collective reflection.

StonyTellers is an art collective founded in 2019 in Prague. The collective’s work includes installations, performances, and text-based projects. Through these activities, it explores themes of sustainability, working conditions, care, and sharing. It actively reflects on contemporary social and political challenges and supports the creation of communities based on solidarity.

The fourth edition of the biennial In the Matter of Art, subtitled Necessary Desires, presents art that arises from necessity and is shaped by the living conditions of those who create it. The project is co-curated by Jaroslava Tomanová, Jakub Gawkowski, and František Fekete. The Biennial consists of a three-month exhibition, a program of events, and long-term activities that explore manifestations of artistic and civic resilience, solidarity, and collective practice. The main exhibition runs from June 12 to September 13, 2026, at the National Gallery in Prague—the Trade Fair Palace—and GAMPA—the Pardubice City Gallery. The third of the main venues, the Tusculum Prague art center, presents long-term community activities that extend beyond the three-month duration of the exhibition.
