The final screening features a brand-new film. We will be showing the comedy Chica Checa directed by Šimon Holý. The film premiered in the main competition at this year’s Karlovy Vary International Film Festival.
This kind and touching story combines humor, family relationships, and the themes of acceptance and the courage to live life on one’s own terms. Pavla Tomicová and Jan Cina star in the lead roles. The film follows Zdena, a widowed rural mail carrier, whose peaceful life is turned upside down by the return of her beloved son Lukáš from France.
Lukáš returns home to say goodbye to his dying grandmother and fulfill her last wish. In the process, however, a secret comes to light that will test the relationship between mother and son as well as the values of those around them—his life in Paris and his drag alter ego, Chico Checo. With humor and sensitivity, the film explores themes of intergenerational understanding, acceptance, and the freedom to be oneself.
