Three brief portraits of three different buildings of the 1980s will be presented during this evening: an Artificial Rowing Channel Račice by the Architectural Group LO-TECH (Tomáš Kulík, Jan Louda, Zbyšek Stýblo), The House of Culture and Colonnade in Teplice (Karel Hubáček, Otakar Binar, Michal Brix, Martin Rajniš), and Pavilions in Mariánské Lázně and in Prague by the architect Michal Brix. The visual documentation of the buildings is accompanied by interviews with their respective architects and also with their current keepers. The architects in the films are interviewed by architecture theorists Radomíra Sedláková and Jana Tichá and by the architecture historian Benjamin Fragner.

The video-portraits are based on the idea of Markéta Mráčková and Barbora Šimonová with the aim to depict different architecture tendencies of the 1980s such as low-tech or postmodernism. Lack of interest in the buildings of this period often leads to insensitive restoration acts and the architecture of the 1980s is thus gradually fading away. The cycle was created for the internet platform Artyčok TV. The authors of the documentaries plan to shoot new follow-ups about buildings of the 1980s influenced by postmodernism.

Markéta Mráčková (1985) and Barbora Šimonová (1982) both graduated from architecture at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague. In 2014, they founded a group called cosa.cz that currently functions as a cultural cooperative. They have prepared several realisations together, e.g. (together with Viktor Vejvoda) a publication with the title “Legenda o sídlišti” (2014).

The presentations will be followed by a party with music of the 1980s.
