We invite you to closing night of the exhibition Topsy Turvy: The World Upside Down. As a bonus, you can look forward to a rap performance by the FAT PIPER H9000 project, featuring Ivana Rovenská, accompanied by a DJ set by Kristýna Popirecinii.

The topos of the world upside down (mundus inversus) has been known in culture since ancient times, becoming highly fashionable in the literature and visual arts of the Middle Ages and the Renaissance. Interestingly and tellingly, its popularity grew especially during periods of rapid transformation. A land of absurdity, a realization of the nonsensical – this parodic world was a tool used to unmask the disconnect between ideals and the prose of everyday life. Acting as a jester's mirror, it parodied the hypocrisy of moralists, the cruelty of power, and the dishonesty of officials. This is why the significance of this topos is so vital in the context of the religious, social, and political conflicts of various eras.

In essence, every age had its own mirror reflection, needed as a kind of counterweight. This vision also encompassed language, the concept of the body, and the rewriting of human relations – it reset them, reinventing them anew, differently, more playfully, more lightly, more imaginatively, becoming a space of very tangible freedom. A freedom that could actually happen, even if the only time window permitted by reality was the carnival.
