Workshop will be held in Czech and English.

Create a portrait of your family, recall the likes and singularities of your family members, use your favourite photos, precious objects and anything else that reminds you of them and of times you have enjoyed together. Have fun using video tricks and projectors to create this video-album.

The family will use creativity and experimentation to strengthen their bonds with the past, they will learn more of it and will preserve details through a visual document that will not only recount their lineage but also, in which they will imprint their comments and interpretations in an artistic manner, so that this account can be transferred and enjoyed by future generations.

This workshop is about exercising memory together, there will also be space to share memories, emotions and creativity with your family, we will use a method of video experimentation that lets you create live, analogue effects and visual collages with your hands. This is a way to reflect on the legacy each family has. The video can contain brief information of several generations or can be dedicated to only one or two persons in detail, this will depend on the choice of each participant.

The workshop is inspired by oral history, media archeology, live cinema and the oral tradition of the natives of Mexico that uses story-telling to create a sense of origin and identity in the community through generations. This workshop aims to create a sense of genealogy through visual history.

Cristina Maldonado (* 1974) is a Mexican artist whose background in body movement lends a unique approach to her visual and conceptual experiments with video, sound, collage and performance. Her work unifies experimental theatre, dance, participatory art, new and old media. Her topics are body, communication and intimacy. She creates experiential frames connecting installation, video and live action.
