Water towers are among Ostrava’s most striking—yet often overlooked—structures. Together, they form a colorful mosaic that reflects a variety of design approaches, water supply systems, and periods of construction—here we’ll find architecturally accomplished municipal water towers, a wide array of structures from various industrial sectors, examples of railway facilities, and typologically unique multipurpose buildings.

During this field lecture near the two water towers in Silesian Ostrava, we’ll explore how these unmissable Ostrava landmarks function and what makes them exceptional. The lecture will be led by Robert Kořínek, a specialist in tower water reservoirs and industrial heritage, and head of the Ostrava branch of the T. G. Masaryk Water Research Institute.

The program will also include the launch of a new puzzle, Ostrava’s Water Towers, which features selected structures and their stories.
