Establishing a religion of the self requires no real lifestyle change. It promises increased productivity and personal happiness, but that is only perceived as a state of mind. You achieve it by turning on a continuous self-monitoring mode in the form of step and sleep trackers or a six-minute app-driven meditation. But instead of true fulfillment, it leads us to adapt to the conditions that create our problems.

Authors Maria Neal and Hubert Švaříček have combined their techniques to come up with objects that weave tapestry together with metal, soft cottons wrapping around sharp edges. Their work becomes a visual illustration of time devoted to work and psycho-hygiene.

Maria Neal is a graduate of the Performance Studio at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Brno. She works mainly with textiles and sound, primarily with field-recordings and found materials. Through a playful exploration of her surroundings, she creates stories and illusions about everyday things.

Hubert Švaříček graduated from the studio of Fine Arts I at UMPRUM and is currently continuing his studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in the studio of Intermedia 3. The author deals with questions of memory and fragmentation of past events, in which he attempts to decontextualize his own experiences. At the same time, he tries to reflect the role of the wall painting by means of metal objects.
