This international, multi-genre project builds on the tradition of the summer Landscape festivals, which have been held in Žižkov on an irregular basis since 2014, always from June through September, but also builds on the first edition of Žižkovská spojka, a one-month open-air festival that took place in the urban landscape and public spaces of Prague 3 during September 2021. 

Žižkovská spojka and Landscape Festival are unique events in the fields of architecture, landscape architecture, and urban planning that combine popular educational content with purely professional content. They strive to present the issues within these fields to the broader public and thereby increase interest in the cultivation of public space. At the same time, they strive to raise awareness among the Czech architectural and urban planning community about the scope and significance of landscape architecture in relation to contemporary architecture and public space. They also serve as a mediator and platform for dialogue between civil society and political representatives.

The Prague 3 municipal district recognizes the importance of revitalizing a former transportation brownfield, which is undergoing a transformation into a cultural hub that has become an important part of Prague’s cultural life. Žižkovská spojka 2026 aims to support the efforts of the Žižkov City Hall administration, which has a clear vision for transforming Prague’s Gordian knot in the broader Florence area in connection with the entrance portal to Lower Žižkov. The broader Krenovka area can be considered Žižkov’s new multi-genre creative center.

The project draws not only on the cultural traditions of this city district but also on the broader historical and cultural activities taking place in the foothills and on the main ridge of Vítkov Hill. Vítkov Hill is currently undergoing revitalization, which is a continuation of efforts to transform the urban landscape and public space of Lower Žižkov—a process that began with the renovation of the bike path and was followed by the reconstruction of Tachovské Square.

The main activities of the Žižkovská spojka festival will include a series of site-specific installations and interventions, an exhibition focused on the history, present, and, above all, the future of Krenovka, and a rich accompanying multi-genre program including debates, a series of lectures, and artistic performances. Renowned organizations based on this cultural campus are contributing to the program—Divadlo Ponec, Unijazz, Architectura, Krenovka, and Trať 42.

The core idea of the project is to revitalize the architectural and cultural heritage of Lower Žižkov while highlighting the historical urban structure and industrial topography of this area. Artistic and architectural interventions in the urban landscape, seeking individual solutions for specific sites, will lead to a strengthening of the genius loci. Cultural and social inclusion serves here as the intellectual foundation for preserving the unique character of this historic urban landscape near the center of Prague.
