Girl, Overloaded connects the graduate projects of the students of the Video Studio, Adela Konečná and Barbora Pavlasová, which are presented as two separate units. Each of them is based on a different strategy, but at the same time they share the theme of over-saturation - visual, affective and mental - and its impact on the perception of the world and oneself. 

Barbora Pavlasová: The Girl Theory

The Girl Theory is an experimental video essay that uses voiceover to work with the Young Girl Theory as a space of visibility, self-observation and internalized evaluation. In the work, personal memory, paranoia, and media images are intertwined into a stream of consciousness in which the boundaries between intimacy, authenticity, and their representation are dissolved.

The video takes us on a subjective journey of the Young Girl across different modes of visibility and self-examination, culminating in a space of open landscape as a place of slowing down and temporarily breaking free from disciplining gazes. The young girl becomes a body without organs through detachment from regulating gazes. The autotheoretical text that forms the basis of the voiceover articulates the internal logic through which the Young Girl views herself and the reality around her.

Adéla Konečná: Overload

Overload is a musical epic based on field recordings made in places often associated with the experience of silence and stillness. The recordings focus primarily on the transformation and loss of the authentic soundscape due to sound pollution. The resulting compositions are not a documentation or illustration of specific places, but rather a new sonic situation in which noises, bustles and ambient sounds are transformed into a musical experience.

The EP is based on personal experience of sensory overload and heightened sensitivity to the transformation of the sonic character of public space. The installation offers a parallel listening experience, with snippets of the compositions and the recordings themselves available to listen to via two headphones.
