Adriena Šimotová is one of the most important personalities of Czech visual art of the second half of the 20th century and the beginning of the 21st century. Her work focuses on the theme of communication in the broadest sense of the word, especially in relation to human identity, its reflection and the possibilities of authentic artistic expression. The depth, urgency and persuasiveness with which the artist explores the essence of human existence makes her work one of the fundamental statements of contemporary Czech art.

The Benedikt Rejt Gallery in Louny in cooperation with the Adriena Šimotová and Jiří John Foundation is preparing on the 100th anniversary of the artist's birth an exhibition conceived as a selected retrospective. The main emphasis will be on large-format perforations and works using the frottage technique, in which the artist intensively develops the existential theme of human personality and defines the key relationships and conditions of its existence.

The exhibition in Louny is part of a broader three-part exhibition cycle dedicated to Adriena Šimotová. It will be followed by a project at the Kampa Museum in Prague, associated with the personality of Meda Mládková, and at the end of the year the artist's work will also be presented at the Moravian Gallery in Brno, where her important 1986 exhibition at the House of the Lords of Kunštát will be commemorated.
