The exhibition project The Comfort of Staring into Holes focuses on the reflection of private and collective emotions and forms of experience in the contradictory and fragmented terrain of today's socio-political reality. Alice Nikitinová questions the possibilities of rehabilitating the immediate and undistorted human relationship to external realities in the era of digitalization of human perception, fragmentation of knowledge and polarized social interactions. Nikitinová observes that the more time we spend in the online environment watching catastrophic news, the more rare the state of full perception of the surrounding reality becomes. She is interested in how, in a hyper-accelerated media age, objective reality begins to elude us, to recede and transform into a reduced digital virtual image. The outside world has become a "touchscreen", an "LCD display", an LED info panel, in whose corners a "pop-up window" constantly pops up warning of ubiquitous war, climate crisis and other dangers of civilization.
