Three Czech photojournalists, three different periods of the second half of the 20th century in the Czechoslovak—later Czech—context: the early 1970s, the late 1980s, and the time of Czechoslovakia’s dissolution around 1993. One theme—countless extraordinary situations, often tragic events, accidents, disasters and tragedies—each different, yet in many ways strikingly similar. Characteristic of them is the specific atmosphere of anonymous, shared misfortune, the observation of the injured’s fate through a crowd of random faces. Or are these not ordinary witnesses—strangers who have nothing to do with the tragedy?
