The exhibition project Balance was created at the Faculty of Design and Art Ladislav Sutnar ZČU in Pilsen as a semester-long assignment across studios in the academic year 2025/2026 and thematizes one of the most basic, yet most fragile principles of contemporary life. In an era marked by climate crisis, geopolitical conflicts, migration, digital overload and transformations in interpersonal relations, balance does not appear as a stable state, but as a constant process of negotiation between opposites - between order and chaos, certainty and uncertainty, the physical and the virtual world.

Curator Daniela Kramer conceives the project as a sprawling exhibition structure that unfolds across multiple spaces and media. A significant part of the project is the exhibition at Ladislav Sutnar Gallery. The exhibition showcases the work of design students and traces how the principle of balance is inscribed in the relationship between material, construction, the body and everyday use.

The studio Metal and Jewelry is particularly well represented, with works that work with the physical weight, tension, fragility and stability of the object. In addition, the exhibition includes fashion design, interior and furniture design, graphic design, illustration and poster design, with individual projects oscillating between functionality and conceptual gesture. Here, balance is not presented as an ideal, but as a changing state emerging through movement, adaptation and constant correction.

A parallel second part of the project is already underway from 20 May to 5 July at Gallery of the City of Pilsen, featuring a wide range of media and approaches. In addition to audiovisual and interactive projects that actively engage the viewer and allow them to experience the balance directly, there are also painting, sculpture, photography and various forms of graphic design. It is this diversity that shows that balance is not a one-dimensional concept, but an experience that can be grasped visually, physically and conceptually.
