The extermination of Lidice and the subsequent reaction to this horrific act around the world led to significant events, much of which was due to the involvement of Sir Barnett Stross (1899-1967), a British physician and politician who was at the birth of the "Lidice Shall Live" movement in Stoke-on-Trent in 1942. Inspired by solidarity with Lidice, this community of local miners contributed to the construction of the new Lidice and to the preservation of the memorial as a symbol of the war's innocent victims. The exhibition A Celebration of Life 2027–1959 refers not only to the original intention of the Lidice Art Collection, as a symbol of life, peace and health.
