David Böhm & Jiří Franta – It’s Almost Like Something That Already Was

Galerie NoD / Praha 1
Jiří Franta and David Böhm return to the place where their artistic collaboration began twenty years ago.
In 2006, the NoD Gallery hosted a two-month exhibition titled It’s Not What It Could Be, during which the artists visited the gallery every day, drew ideas, comments, and observations from that day on the walls—much like in a sketchbook—thus creating a sort of collage diary. The duo treated the exhibition’s closing as a farewell to this activity and repainted the walls of the entire gallery back to their original state—empty and white.
Now they are presenting a remake, It’s Almost Like Something That Already Was, in which they will follow the same process and explore their own artistic history and evolution. Since this is not a static exhibition, the artists invite visitors to return to the gallery repeatedly to witness the entire process.
The performance will also feature guest artists Julius Reichel (Oct. 24), Vladimír 518 (Nov. 2), and Chrudoš Valoušek (Nov. 8). Just as in 2006, the exhibition will conclude with the walls being repainted white.
To mark the twentieth anniversary of the artistic collaboration between David Böhm and Jiří Franta, the publishing house BigBoss is releasing a monograph summarizing their work. As part of the pre-sale, you can purchase a work by both artists along with the book: a silkscreen print, a drawing in a matchbox, a framed drawing, or a visit from the artists themselves to your home, where they will create a work of art on your wall.
