The exhibition Disturbed Surface offers a cross-section of contemporary relief art.

The exhibition does not present relief as a distinct artistic discipline. Rather, it focuses on the principle of relief: the movement between surface and volume, image and object, representation and physical presence. Some artists draw on painting, drawing, or printmaking and extend the image into space. Others come from the fields of sculpture or glassmaking and allow their objects to take on the qualities of a painting.
