Erik Sikora – Navigace narvala
Erik Sikora will present three video essays in the exhibition Navigace narvala: two works represented in the local collection of moving image (The Endless Exhibition, 2007 and The Invention of Navigation, 2007) will be followed by a new video essay created specifically for the exhibition in Hradec Kralove.
The central feature of the work of Erik Sikora, who also goes by the pseudonym Džumelec, is a neo-Dadaist approach that frees the viewer from the stereotypical perception of art and leads him to an authentic experience through play. In his work, he applies DIY instructions, records live actions, asks various banal questions to which he seeks the answer himself.
Erik Sikora (*1986) studied from 2005 to 2011 at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague, where he gradually passed through the studios of New Media I. Michael Bielický and Markus Huemer, Painting II. Vladimír Skrepl, guest lecturer Magdalena Jetelová, Conceptual Art by Miloš Šejn and Tomáš Vaněk, guest lecturer Florian Reither and the Gelitin group. After returning to Košice, he continued his doctoral studies at the Faculty of Arts in the ASK 3D studio under the supervision of Radovan Čerevka from 2016-2020. In 2019, he was the winner of the Oskar Čepan Prize. He teaches at the Secondary Film School and the Faculty of Arts and performs as Džumelec.
