The installation Restoration was created specifically for the space of the IGLOO Sound Gallery and is inspired by the artist’s trip to the seaside with her family this year. The installation features several videos in which Ester combines live-action footage with animation, original music by the duo Svačiny in surround sound, along with images and a travel journal.

The video builds on the previous work The Most Important Prerequisite for Success Is Getting Along with the Creatures Within Us (from 2017). How can one carve out a personal space for dreaming within the confined space of a van and in the constant proximity of others? Documentary footage intertwines with animations, accompanied by songs and dreamlike images. These images can transform into a gateway to a realm of colorful inner landscapes. The exhibition also features the artist’s travel journal and a collection of found objects. The installation captures the tension between the roles of mother and partner and the desire to be in a world of imagination and fantasy where she can be herself.

Painter, illustrator, and animator Ester Nemjó (*1992) graduated from UMPRUM in Prague and spent part of her studies on an internship at ENSAD in Paris. Her graduation project, The Most Important Prerequisite for Success Is Getting Along with the Creatures Within Us, is a story about strange creatures inhabiting the botanical garden of her soul. After “raising” two children, she found refuge in poetic imagery. She lives and works in Prague.
