The exhibition project Family Permafrost focuses on the themes of family and home.

Both concepts may seem banal and hollow in today’s media-saturated world, yet they serve as a testing ground for new experiences that examine the situation and state of contemporary society at its very foundation. We live in a world of rapid change and shifting values.

This situation is also reflected in the expressive means of contemporary painting. Painting, as a highly sensitive and at the same time critical platform of contemporary visual culture, has the potential—given its strongly subjective nature—to bring to light the interstices of these broader developments, which, within their suggested contours, can reveal what which mainstream society will only perceive after a certain delay.

The exhibition’s title refers both to the theme of family and to the climate crisis, which is fatally disrupting humanity’s previously seemingly unshakable certainties.
