Jitka Petrášová is currently developing a broader series of works on paper dedicated to the theme of the so-called Něžci (gentle runners). These are fictional beings whom the artist places in a wide variety of situations and absurd micro-stories. Through them, she explores the entire spectrum of human emotions—from joy and vitality to melancholy, apathy, and exhaustion.
She does not perceive fragility, sensitivity, and vulnerability as weaknesses, but rather as an important part of the human experience. The seemingly absurd world of Něžci thus becomes an exploration of contemporary society, interpersonal relationships, and our most personal and often hidden experiences. This time, Jitka Petrášová expands her world from works on paper to three-dimensional objects.
Jitka Petrášová (*1981) focuses on figurative painting, drawing, printmaking, illustration, and the creation of original books. She graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague, where she studied under Robert Šalanda, Marek Meduna, and Petr Dub, and also studied with visiting professor Anton Vidokle. In 2025, she won the Graphic Artist of the Year award in the Intaglio Print category, and in the summer of 2026, she completed a residency in Brussels under the auspices of the Czech Center.
