Leica Gallery Prague is joining in the tribute to the 90th anniversary of the birth of Václav Havel with an exhibition of photographs by Karel Cudlín. For this purpose, Cudlín selected nearly 150 photographs from his archive. Over the course of his photographic work, Cudlín developed a personal relationship with Václav Havel—one he considers among his most cherished—that went beyond the typical president-official photographer dynamic.
Karel Cudlín (*1950) is one of the most prominent figures in the field of documentary photography in the Czech Republic. In addition to numerous publications, he has organized hundreds of exhibitions. Among his extensive photographic body of work, the best-known are long-term series such as Burning Love, Lucerna, Workers, Refugees, Ukraine, Vanishing Worlds, The Revival of Religious Communities, and many others.
