When you meet Kurt Gebauer, he often has a camera in his hand…

However, his photographs are rarely on display. That is why we decided to organize an exhibition of Kurt’s photographs—spanning various themes and time periods. Kurt Gebauer has been observing things his whole life. Sometimes this results in a painting or a sculpture. Other times, a photograph. He photographs landscapes, cities, people, chance encounters, strange situations, and ordinary moments that most of us don’t even notice. He also photographs his own works—not only to archive them, but because he is interested in their subsequent life in space, among people, and over time.

The exhibition kurtfotomat presents a selection of photographs that have so far remained somewhat in the background of the artist’s work. Alongside these, it displays documentation of the creation of certain works, including The Submerged Sculpture of the Vltava, and also highlights several of his well-known sculptural works. The exhibition will also include selected “classic” works by Kurt Gebauer, allowing visitors to perceive the interconnections between his photographic and sculptural work. The atmosphere of the exhibition will be complemented by screenings of films dedicated to Kurt Gebauer and his artistic work.
