Visit La Villa Fuga, a space where design meets art and craft. The new exhibition at Gallery UM captures the atmosphere of a dreamy yet perfectly furnished interior. The creative collective Fuga does not create a showroom, but a space for a life full of imagination, in which it combines distinctive, seemingly disparate artefacts at the boundary between object and design.
Fuga collective consists of students, graduates and alumni from the studios of the departments of design and applied arts at UMPRUM. Instead of mass production, it offers unique authentic pieces. In the UM Gallery, they create the backdrop of a perfect place to let their works stand out."In a polyphonic installation, familiar and surprising objects meet. A teapot, a handbag or a textile are transformed into gestures, sculptures or reliquaries", curator Tereza Vernerová Volná explains the uniqueness of the works and the specificity of Ivo Jedlička and Tereza Dvořáková's installation.
Guests, rather than visitors, will tour the ideal interior of the house, which includes living spaces, a bedroom, a dressing room and a hallway. Each room will be properly furnished. There will be original furniture, crockery, interior accessories, but also photographic objects, textiles or jewellery, everything that can make an interior distinctive and unique. The convincing craftsmanship of every detail is met with the use of traditional and surprising materials - from ceramics, wood, textiles or metal to caramel or orobince. At the same time, the installation preserves the atmosphere of an unexpected visit, a glimpse into a household that its inhabitants have just left, for example, when leaving for work.
A significant part of the installation, underlining the exclusivity of Villa Fuga, is the original lifestyle magazine La Villa Fuga Journal. It will let its readers take a deeper look into the atmosphere of an imaginary interior with character, introducing the authors and their projects. It retains the spirit of uniqueness and allows a progressively deeper understanding of each artefact.
The La Villa Fuga exhibition shows the power of collective creation, the multiplicity of interpretations and the magic of materials. It affirms that contemporary artistic craftsmanship can hold its own in the gallery and indoors.
