The title of the exhibition Tide refers to a movement that is constant, sometimes subtle, sometimes powerful and uncontrollable. Just as the tide of the sea shapes the coastline, our experiences, memories and relationships shape our identity and perception of the world. In my work, I explore how human intervention changes the environment and interpersonal relationships, and how these traces affect our self-images – sometimes subtly, sometimes dramatically. My series of paintings capture streams of emotion, memory and intuition that coalesce into multi-layered scenes.
Surreal and realistic motifs, figures and abstract objects, the human body and animals, fragments of the everyday, historical and technological references – all combine to create an image of the world in motion, like an ever-changing tide. The exhibition invites us to stop in the flow of time, to observe the complexity of the world and our own place in it. Like a tide that is constantly coming and going, our experiences and memories shape a new order, new possibilities and new ways of seeing. The tide is thus an invitation to encounter what is fragile and strong, familiar and unfamiliar, personal and collective.
