A joint exhibition by Markéta Slaná and Polish artist Karolina Jarzębak explores the dynamics of memetic structures that reflect the affective conditioning of today's post-digital society. It is no coincidence that today’s cultural meanings increasingly emerge through viral movements and their inherent mechanisms of imitation, repetition, or subtle shifts, contributing to the formation of the collective imagination. Through objects and sculptures, the exhibition Rot Summer thus explores not only the environment of the algorithmic landscape itself, but also the colonization of our attention or the endless loops of psychological stimulation.

Markéta Slaná is a visual artist and performer who lives and works in Prague. In her work, she explores the theme of internet space and the closely related issues surrounding the constant consumption of a continuous stream of digital information and visual stimuli. Her artistic approach is based on a combination of various media—objects, installations, and performance—with a primary focus on the artistic exploration of themes such as dissociation, alienation, and post-ironic depersonalization. She is also interested in the concepts of ordinariness and absurdity in a networked world, where, despite this, a constant sense of loneliness prevails. She studied in the Photography II studio and the Fine Arts IV studio, where she recently defended her thesis. She participated in the AEP residency program at the Ruppert Residency in Vilnius, the Delfina Foundation in London, and the Brno House of Arts. She has presented her work at several domestic and international exhibitions, such as Cute but Psycho at Gallery Novo in Pula (2026), Silent Scrutiny at the TIC Gallery in Brno (2024), TiSSue#17 at Goldsmiths CCA in London (2026), Sepia (in collaboration with Andrej Beštak and Anja Leko) at the Museum Quartier in Vienna (2024), Congratulations, You Have Just Lost! at Hunt Kastner in Prague (2025), and as part of the performance Paranoia Symphony (with Nikola Balberčáková) at the National Gallery in Prague (2023). Since 2025, she has led the international nomadic collective Bassnotes on Hope, which focuses on musical and performative projects.

Karolina Jarzębak (*1990) is a visual artist who lives and works in Kraków. In her artistic practice, she works mainly with digital media, readymades or symbolic language of traditional crafts such as wood inlay. Her interest lies primarily in phenomena emerging in online ecosystems - from subversive forums such as 4chan, through local, memetic niches like the Polish Karaczan, to virtual social spheres exemplified by Second life. She treats the internet as a live archive of unstable narratives, half-truths, conspiracy theories, atomized micro-information excerpts, glitches, and modal noise from which she constructs stories about the present moment. In 2017, she graduated from the Faculty of Painting at the Jan Matejko Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków. In 2023, she was the co-recipient of the Grand Prix at the 46th Bielska Jesień Painting Biennale. She has participated in artist residencies including Meetactory in Prague and the LuginsLand of Art programme (OmenaArt Foundation, Malta). She has presented work at several exhibitions in Poland, such From the ashes at Zachęta – National Gallery of Art in Warsaw (2024), I’ll tell you about half-dreams at the National Museum in Gdańsk (2025), Hurr Durr at Cricoteka in Kraków (2021), SelfPwnd at Bielska Gallery BWA (2025), Is it real at Rondo Sztuki in Katowice (2022), as well as during Warsaw Gallery Weekend and Krakow Art Week.
