Sára Konečná – Morning After Morning

Sára Konečná (*2002) is a painter who is studying her third year at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague in the studio of Painting I under the guidance of Robert Šalanda and Jan Kostohryz. She belongs to an emerging generation of artists who naturally combine personal experience with a sensitive perception of contemporary visual language and painting possibilities.

Her work is based on an introspective approach in which personal memories, fragments of experience and imagination are intertwined with conscious stylization. Konečná creates images that balance between a concrete situation and its free interpretation. Typical for her are scenes that carry a hint of a story - but are never literal. The viewer is left in the space between what is depicted and what he or she has to imagine. This openness is one of the key moments of her work.

There is a sensuality in the paintings, but it is not primal. Rather than an explicit message, it is a subtly built tension that arises between the elements of the composition - body, space and colour. The narrative level of her works often takes place on the edge of dreams and reality. The characters are not anchored in a specific time or place, making their situation more general. Painting technique, especially the use of airbrush, plays an important role in her work. This allows her to work with smooth transitions, subtle gradations of colour and atmospheric blurring. The result is a pictorial space that feels soft, almost haptic, while maintaining a certain distance. 

Konečná approaches painting as a quiet form of study - not in the sense of analytical analysis, but as focused observation. The central motif of her work is the body, but she presents it not as an object but as a vehicle for experience. In her paintings, corporeality is reduced to basic shapes and coloured surfaces, which results in a certain calming and generalisation of the motif. Minimalist compositions allow her to focus on small nuances - the tension in a gesture, the relationship between figures or a subtle change in colour tone. Any traces of eroticism are deliberately suppressed in her paintings. Instead, there is sensitivity, uncertainty and a moment of hesitation. The feeling of being watched is also a significant theme - not dramatically, however, but rather on a quiet, inner level. This aspect adds a special tension to the paintings that is not obvious at first glance, but gradually develops with prolonged perception.
