Key energy resources such as coal, oil, natural gas, and nuclear energy in the work of contemporary artists.
Energy resources ensure national security, economic stability, and the basic needs of the population; their social significance is therefore enormous. The history of the extraction and industrial use of non-renewable resources is closely intertwined with dramatic societal transformations, such as industrialization and modernization. Due to their limited reserves and uneven distribution, energy, critical, and strategic raw materials play an important role in both local and global conflicts. The massive burning of fossil fuels accelerates climate change and raises questions about the sustainability of the system. The exploitation of natural resources often goes hand in hand with the exploitation of people.
The exhibition examines the issue of resources within anthropological, social, environmental, geopolitical, and speculative-fictional contexts. The monumental installations, videos, and paintings on display offer a mix of utopia and dystopia. DIG WE MUST! DRILL BABY DRILL!
