Tereza Strnad (*1978), a graduate of Jiří Sopko’s painting studio at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague, devotes herself exclusively to painting. Through the use of figures and objectivity, her work explores the private and even intimate sphere of human existence, set either in diverse outdoor settings (the beach, a walk through the city, in a park, in the mountains, etc.) or in enclosed interiors (usually an apartment).
These are moments of reflection, solitude, contemplation, reading, and passive rest, during which the individual undergoes mental regeneration. These moments are mirrored by the world of still lifes, which, immersed in themselves, reflect time standing still through light and shadow. The artist’s paintings are recognizable by their refined use of color and their distinctly structured style. The exhibition This and That brings to life the entire spectrum of moments and instants that refer to a break from the rush and hustle of everyday life and a drift into the realm of pleasant contemplation, idling, and blissful lounging.
