Tomáš Prchal (* 1988) is a student at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague. From 3 September 2012 the unorthodox exhibition space Vernon Projekt, which allows passers-by to have a look inside the gallery all day long, will be hosting his installation Sanctuary, which provides viewers with the opportunity to uncover the relationship between the image and its place of origin. The studio that Tomáš Prchal works in changes gradually into a sanctuary – a setting that supports his efforts and becomes part of the motivation behind a key to understanding the images. This installation gives viewers the opportunity to see roughly what the place where artists do their work looks like. Will people be able to more effectively read the images if they have a chance to examine the place where they originated? Or does this experience on the contrary distract their attention and interfere in the regular perception process?
