Diverse specific subcultures with a hint of romance, remoteness and adventure, living their inaccessible lives – those are the motifs of Vojtěch Horálek’s paintings. The theme of many of his works lies in the omnipresent essence of oriental culture in our streets. His scenes capture the condition of this exotic minority, which finds it difficult to withstand the influence of our post-industrial society. The paintings convey the impression of a synthesis of visual settings intimately known to each of us. Asian bistros, restaurants, shops and shopkeepers or staff with an oriental air. The normal everyday world that we frequently take advantage of with a view to saving our money. The routine with which we approach these islands of Asian culture contrasts sharply with their introverted nature and our lack of information about their character and the way they work. The work of Vojtěch Horálek captures the bizarre existence of this parallel universe. He paints the degenerate oriental appearance of enterprises that lose their exceptionality in the middle of Bohemia and under the influence of globalization.
