The fruit smells pungent, almost sickeningly sweet. It is impossible to tell whether its inside will be orange and refreshing or blood-red and bitter; pithy and tough, or unexpectedly soft. Under the peel there may be a fibrous web of white and a disappointing number of tart pips.
How long can we keep holding on?
Its overripe peel cracks and folds into itself on the concrete.
Viktória Monhor is an intermedia and performance artist. Approaching art as a form of extended social practice, her works engage with questions about public speech, press freedom, and memory politics, often through the lens of contemporary Hungarian realities. Her interest in political power and collective narratives emerges both from contingency and from a sense of necessity — a need to speak out, to dispute and debate the lack of clarity assigned to the past as a precursor to the concerns of our present reality.
