Zorka Lednárová has long been devoted to the topic of barriers in the city – both visible ones and those that most people are not even aware of. She herself uses a wheelchair, so she knows this issue from everyday experience. Although current architectural and urban design principles declare an effort to take into account the needs of all residents, the reality of inclusion tends to be much more complex.

In the exhibition Where Freedom Ends at the Artwall gallery, the artist draws attention to places where a person in a wheelchair stops because of one or two steps. Accompanied by local students, she places objects in public space in the form of giant steps - symbolic obstacles that make visible a problem that is commonly overlooked. The documentation of these site-specific actions confronts mainstream society with the existence of barriers that, although inconspicuous, are essential for many people. The aim of the project is not just to highlight the fact that our cities are still not meeting the needs of all their inhabitants. Lednárová challenges us to imagine a public space in which inclusion is not the exception, but the norm.

The exhibition was created in collaboration with the Artivist Lab gallery, where a parallel exhibition of the same name is running with other works by the artist and documentation of the project.
