Welcome to the Municipal Museum in Kralupy nad Vltavou, located in the very heart of the town. Our permanent exhibitions will introduce you to the history of the town from the Middle Ages to the present day, including important milestones, transformations, and events that have shaped Kralupy through the centuries. The display also includes key moments of the 20th century that significantly impacted local life and left a lasting mark on the memory of the town.

Kralupy is also associated with remarkable personalities. The museum is home to the only permanent exhibition in the Czech Republic dedicated to the poet Jaroslav Seifert the only Czech laureate of the Nobel Prize in Literature. The exhibition commemorates his exceptional work, his life, and, above all, his close personal and family ties to our town. Visitors will also find a tribute to another notable figure the painter Jiří Kars, an exceptional representative of the interwar art scene. Born here in Kralupy, he spent a significant part of his life and artistic career in Paris.

In the museum’s basement, you can explore the everyday life of our ancestors through the exhibition “Old Merchant’s Shop”, which documents what local trade looked like before 1918. There is also a relocated rural blacksmith’s workshop belonging to the family of blacksmith Antonín Datl, featuring a unique and fully preserved set of blacksmithing tools, offering insight into the craftsmanship of past generations.

Be sure not to miss the unique late-Gothic woodcarving exceptional within the entire Czech Republic and a true jewel of our museum. This precious artefact is displayed on the ground floor of the building in the museum chapel, whose historical and spiritual atmosphere enhances the aesthetic experience of this extraordinary work of art.

Throughout the year, the museum comes to life with a rich programme of events. Visitors can look forward to a variety of temporary exhibitions, lectures, cultural programmes, concerts, and craft workshops for both children and adults. These activities allow visitors to discover the history and culture of our region in an enjoyable, interactive, and inspiring way.
