Can constraints foster creativity? This is precisely the question addressed by the international exhibition project 100 × 100 × 100 × 100, which presents contemporary approaches to sculpture at five art academies in Central Europe.

Curator Daniela Kramerová based the exhibition on a simple yet rigorous principle. Each participant was allowed to use only a shipping crate with maximum dimensions of 100 × 100 × 100 cm and a weight of 100 kg for their presentation. What was originally a practical constraint thus became a curatorial concept that unifies the conditions for all exhibitors while simultaneously raising questions about scale, space, volume, and the very essence of the sculptural work.

The exhibition was not conceived as a representative survey of contemporary sculpture, but as an intimate exploration of the various ways in which three-dimensional art is taught and developed today. It brings together educators and students from five art schools in the Czech Republic, Poland, and Slovakia, whose approaches range from classical sculpture through objects and installations to conceptual strategies and interdisciplinary crossovers.

The project reflects the ever-changing nature of contemporary sculpture. In addition to traditional work with materials and craftsmanship, sculpture today also encompasses work with space, process, ideas, and new media. The exhibition does not aim to provide a comprehensive overview of these trends, but rather presents a selection of works that, despite their differing approaches, are united by their relationship to material, the object, and physical experience.

The exhibition features representatives from the following institutions:

The exhibition creates a space for international dialogue between different pedagogical approaches and generations of artists, demonstrating that clearly defined limits can serve as an impetus for the search for new forms of artistic expression.
