Imagine picking up today’s newspaper and finding your life as the front-page headline… and everything written there would be accurate, yet untrue. This is precisely the dilemma faced by the protagonist of this drama about the incredible power of the press. Michael Gallagher (played by Paul Newman in an Oscar-nominated performance) reads in the newspaper that he is the subject of a criminal investigation. Suddenly, everything he has ever worked for is at risk. He confronts the author of the article, Megan Carter (Sally Field), a relentless investigative reporter. Together, they discover that the article was deliberately planted for Carter as part of a conspiracy by the lead investigator. Gallagher’s life hangs in the balance as he and Carter work together to uncover the truth.
