A polyphonic fusion of music, dance, and visual art. Four performers on stage. A concept by the art collective Ferst Dadler, created in collaboration with Berlin icons Echtzeitmusik—Burkhard Beins and Michael Vorfeld.

The idea of a percussion theater led to the decision to expand the use of instruments and sound objects into the performance space, thereby building on the modular nature of percussion instruments. Their goal is to shift the audience’s perception toward the materiality and possibilities of objects, space, and sound itself.

This delicate relationship between performers, light, objects, movement, space, and silence creates an intimate situation that transcends genre boundaries. Whether it’s animism or bioacoustics, sound exists only in relation to something else; therefore, let us prioritize relationship over individuality.

Ferst Dadler is a performance art group that formed in 2017 as a result of the collaboration and friendship among three artists: dancers/choreographers and a musician. The fundamental question the creators ask themselves today is how group creativity and the creative process work. Ferst Dadler’s work is responsible and inclusive. It brings new impulses to the public sphere and gives visitors the opportunity to become participants and co-creators of works that have both aesthetic and social value.

Burkhard Beins is a composer and performer active in the fields of experimental music and sound art. He is known for his unique approach to percussion instruments in combination with selected sound objects. He also works with live electronics and analog synthesizers, plays bass guitar, and has designed several sound installations. He lives in Berlin.

Michael Vorfeld is a musician and media artist; he plays percussion and string instruments of his own design and creates electroacoustic sound compositions. He is active in the fields of experimental and improvised music and sound art—creating performances and installations that work with sound and light, and he also engages in photography and projection. In addition to his solo work, he is a member of various ensembles and collaborates with artists from many different fields of the arts. He lives in Berlin, and his activities include numerous concerts, performances, and exhibitions in Europe, the Americas, Asia, and Australia.
