Where are you headed, femboys, incels, brainrots? We often learn about the direction taken by clusters of avatars, memetic tribes, or entire generations only through the statements of their most extreme representatives. A comprehensive dive into complex social ties is replaced by diagnostic labels and “-isms,” while “vibe shifts” give way to fleeting indicators of fascism or economic recession.
Identifying with any group in this environment means putting yourself on the line. And at the same time, expecting that someone might give you a hard time. The exhibition Skin in the Art Market attempts to do just that—perhaps a bit too literally.
