Jimena Mendoza builds on parallels between imaginary iconographies of distant peripheries. The promise of cosmic futures and folklore motifs of late modernity meets in the vision of lost, ancient but futuristic utopian world. The mechanism of clash is further enforced with Mendoza’s precise formal sensitivity and advanced, experienced material knowledge, almost unusual for western contemporary art.
