Come join us for the launch of the second issue of the zine WHO CARES, which navigates the realms of maintenance, decay, and daydreaming. Memory, nostalgia, social norms, and power structures intersect here with images of resistance, escape, and renewal, briefly attempting to challenge and overshadow the logic of endless consumption and the desire for novelty.
This year, the zine was created against the backdrop of a series of gatherings called WHO CARES CLUB SESSIONS, whose aim was to create a space for collective activities in which upkeep becomes not only work but also rest, (self-)care, entertainment, resistance, and a way of living together. From these meetings, experiences, and shared situations emerges a publication that, through personal testimonies, photo essays, fictional reports, and horoscopes, explores maintenance as a physical, poetic, and political practice.
During the evening, we’ll listen together to a performative reading by Barbora and Risto Ilič, draw maintenance-themed prophecies or weather proverbs for the coming year, and together maintain our summer relaxation (or work?) mode through the thematic WHO CARES CLUB 9 TO 5 playlist.
The artists Ludmila Jankovichová and Karolína Munková work at the intersection of architecture, artistic creation, curation, education, and craftsmanship. Together, they create projects that explore the fragility and layered nature of environments, bodies, and identities. In addition to their own work, they collaborate on projects with the salát collective, where they enjoy connecting architecture with craft practices. They are also active in the Brno-based cultural platforms 4AM/Forum for Architecture and Media and Ssesi.space.
