Sleep is repeatedly portrayed as one of the last means of escape – the last bastion of resistance, undermined by the present-day performance-oriented system. Jarcovjáková, the underground author of many literary and photographic diaries in the 1980s, will present a selection from her so far unpublished series of photographs entitled Kimochi: Beds and Rooms at Fotografic Gallery. Despite its random structure, this series displays signs of a unique time-lapse documentary. Using the metaphoric value found in images of unmade beds, Jarcovjáková’s statement is more of a personal rather than a political nature.

“I page through my life. I enter empty rooms and see empty beds. I see rooms full of strange things, beds in which strange people sleep. Foreign rooms in foreign cities. Temporary homes, hotels, sleeping quarters…  Beds in which I felt good. Or sometimes not. I don’t remember where it was, who was there with me. All that remains is an image. Images.” (L. J.)

The guided tour of the exhibition Kimochi: Beds and Rooms led by the exhibiting photographer Libuše Jarcovjáková is part of Fotograf Festival #8 “Non-Work: Occupied by Leisure Time”.
