Ondřej Kotrč’s Care Bears are back, but this time without the promise of the embrace we’ve been dreaming of. They stick to the edges and blind spots. The artist takes these creatures—meant to be loved and held—and makes them do the exact opposite. By hiding, the motif falls apart, and the things behind which they disappear cease to be mere backdrops.

Ondřej Kotrč is an intermedia artist whose work blends painting, objects, and material exploration. He focuses on pop culture and subcultural motifs, their contextualization, and their shifting roles. An important part of his work is the very process of creation itself, craftsmanship, experimentation with materials, and the mistakes that arise during the creative process.
