What happens when Olívie jumps straight out of a book and into an exhibition?
Illustrator and Olomouc-based artist Pavla Baštanová and her partner, scenographer Hynek Petrželka, bring the world of a little girl and her grandfather from J. A. Pitínský’s children’s book into a spatial installation full of flying fish, colours, sounds and unexpected details. In 2026, the book Olívie si vyskakuje! received the Zlatá stuha award in the category of fiction for younger children.
Pavla Baštanová is an Olomouc-based animator, illustrator and educator. She studied animation at the bachelor’s level at Tomas Bata University in Zlín and later earned a master’s degree in TV and Film Graphics at UMPRUM in Prague. She works on original short films; her best-known works include Among the Trees (2015), I Can’t Swim (2015), Mukumů (2017) and About a Cow (2023), which was screened, among other festivals, at the Locarno Film Festival. She illustrated the children’s book Mukumú (2020), based on the film of the same name. Her work is characterised by a sensitive depiction of nature, animals and delicate emotions, combining traditional graphic techniques with animation, drawing, collage and 2D digital processing.
Curator: Alexandr Jančík
The exhibition opening will take place as part of the programme of the 12th edition of the LITR book fair, held from 18 to 20 September in Olomouc.
