Join historian Petr Lexa Přendík, author of Ostrava Trails, and a PLATO gallery staff member who witnessed its history, on a tour of the places in Ostrava where PLATO began, continued, and ultimately settled.
Since 2022, we have been based in the renovated building of the former municipal slaughterhouse, but the path to this location led through several temporary stops along the way. During our walk together, we’ll visit each of these locations, explore their historical context, and get a behind-the-scenes look at the development of the entire project.
We’ll discover how a gas storage facility was converted into exhibition spaces, how a small store managed to host a gallery, and how contemporary art found a home in a 5,000 m² glass-walled hobby store. Buildings that few would have imagined could serve this purpose have become fully-fledged gallery spaces. We’ll show how the unique characteristics of these locations have shaped the functioning of an institution whose activities have never been limited solely to exhibitions.
We’ll meet at the Gong Multifunctional Auditorium in the Lower Vítkovice area. The route from Gong to PLATO is 4.7 km, approx. 2 hours.
We have a backup plan in case of rain—follow our social media and website.
