This electroacoustic performance combines the Belarusian cimbalom, field recordings, and a live video projection by John Carmon. The project emerged as one of the artistic outputs of the artist’s dissertation, which focused on aural perception, and is part of her artistic research. The performance explores listening as a means of becoming present.

Here, the traditional cimbalom is not a symbol of folklore, but a medium of cultural memory that, through contemporary sound technologies, enters into a dialogue with the landscape, space, and the listener’s bodily experience. Subtle transformations of sound, resonance, and spatiality create an environment that invites one to slow down, listen intently, and contemplate.

Polina Khatsenka (mʊdʌki) is a Belarusian sound artist, composer, and performer who lives and works in the Czech Republic. In her work, she focuses on electroacoustic music, spatial sound installations, and site-specific performances, in which she combines field recordings, live sound processing, and immersive listening formats. She is a faculty member at the Faculty of Art and Design at Jan Evangelista Purkyně University in Ústí nad Labem. She is a co-founder of the phonon~ collective, which focuses on experimental electronic music, sound art, and spatial sound, and she regularly performs at festivals and artistic platforms across Europe.
