Group Exhibition The Death of Beautiful Butterflies is a project that brings together various perspectives on love, desire, eroticism, and identity. It stands in opposition to the mainstream culture of romantic comedies, movies, and books, in which love is condensed into a few months of happiness and confined to the idea of “and they lived happily ever after.”  

It stems from frustration with the dream that has been presented to us since childhood: you’ll fall in love, get married, and live happily ever after. A dream we all want to believe in, but one that vanishes before our eyes after the first breakup—or perhaps even much sooner. The exhibition aims to address loneliness, sadness, and broken hearts, as well as the joy and love of those whose hearts remain unbroken.  

The exhibition will feature a number of interesting and important works of contemporary art. Visitors can look forward, for example, to the project r/ForeverAlone by this year’s Oskar Čepan Award winner Nikola Balberčáková, the installation Loop by virtual artist Silver, and a collection of paintings by Kristýna Matalová. The accompanying program will also include a performance by Nikola Balberčáková and Jakub Pohlodek titled Her name was Caroline Salem.  

The concept and execution of the exhibition are the work of artist and curator Vojtěch Fábry, who, in 2022—as a 14-year-old high school student—founded the street gallery Galerii Podchod in Prague’s Vršovice district. For the fifth year in a row, the gallery has been fulfilling its mission—to connect established artists with emerging creators from among high school and college students and to provide them with a space to grow. 

In the fall of 2024, the gallery’s exhibition activities expanded to include the historic Kolben Villa in Vinohrady—through the GP Kolbenka project and the group exhibition USED. In 2025, the villa hosted the exhibition Wounded Bodies, which explored the depiction of injury and the loss of bodily integrity in contemporary art. Now, the villa’s doors will open to visitors for the third time.
