One of the most distinctive artists of the younger generation has created an exhibition for the Dukla Gallery that builds on her previous work in painting—namely, depicting the everyday through seemingly simple visual shorthand. She continues to develop this approach and enriches it with new themes specifically chosen for this space.
Come discover the poetry in everyday details. In its austerity, the exhibition is incredibly sensitive, yet it can also be interpreted in another way—as an unpretentious commentary on general human behavior. It is no coincidence that the exhibition’s title refers to the revolutionary slogan “there’s a beach under the pavement.” In the interpretation of Vendula Chalánková, however, the slogan—shifted into a surreal realm—calls for a revolution in perception. Sensitivity to our surroundings and ordinary things seems to be the key to our ability to reach an agreement with one another. After all, a fallen tile is something so familiar to everyone that it’s almost impossible to argue about it.
