The garden is one of the oldest images of the world—a place of growth, care, work, and rest, but also a metaphor for society, relationships, and the inner world of human beings. It is never a completely closed system—something always grows out of it, something comes in from the outside, and at the same time, something eludes human control.

The exhibition oscillates between the idea of a harmonious, thriving garden and the awareness of the advancing climate crisis. Why water weeds—that which is often considered undesirable, growing outside of one’s intentions? And why harvest wild apples—smaller, more bitter, irregular, far from the ideal of cultivated perfection? Both gestures invite us to reevaluate our approach and to embrace the current uncertainty. Watering weeds, harvesting wild apples simultaneously means supporting what grows and bears fruit spontaneously despite adverse conditions.

Two curators, two generational perspectives, and a broader network of relationships create a space for interconnection—between artists, works, experiences, and ways of thinking and perceiving. Just as individual plants in a garden influence one another, support each other, or compete for space, unexpected connections and dialogues emerge here as well.

The exhibition interweaves ecological, social, and personal themes and extends beyond the gallery’s walls—spanning both the interior and exterior of the studio, which also includes a community garden. The project loosely follows on from the exhibition Unseren Garten bestellen at the riesa efau gallery in Dresden, while at Studio Bubec it expands to include new works by additional artists from the Czech Republic, Austria, and Slovakia.
