Adéla Svobodová appears to face in two directions simultaneously (she studied graphic design at FaVU in Brno, 2001-2005, and also at AVU in Prague, 2002-2008) as is manifested, among other things, by making a theme of the relationship between the conceptual ways of thinking in fine art and graphic design. In her current installation the artist attempts to create, through her artistic work and through citations of graphic design, a space - a temporary platform for open social interaction. Its perception can be continually redefined inside the exhibition's situation. The resulting whole composed of fragments of iconic book pages, covers and text excerpts (their heterogeneous selection being given exclusively by the artist's private preferences), forming abstract "surfaces", may represent a border territory between image, document, discourse, "digression" of meanings and vague nostalgia.

Adéla Svobodová (1978)

Graphic designer and fine artist. Studied graphic design at FAVU in Brno (2001-2005) and between 2002-2008 at AVU in Prague (studios of Michael Bielický and Vladimír Skrepl). Presently working mainly in graphic design and book design. She received The Most Beautiful Swiss Books 2010 award and the gold medal in the Schönste Bücher aus aller Welt competition for the book Atlas transformace. A member of the Ládví group. Together with the French designer Pauline Kerleroux she started the Pauline & Adela studio. She lives and works in Prague.
