Only those who live in silence for a long time can listen to him and talk to him. Only where words are no longer needed is silence filled with them. Anežka Kovalová is as connected to silence as she is to Sobotín, situated in the foothills of the Jeseníky Mountains. With modesty and humility, she works with shape and colour. The abstraction of shape is accompanied by a colourful freedom. Landscapes and objects are simplified into a poetic sign, its form determined by the essence of what has been seen and tested by time. Likewise, the palette of her egg tempera can seem spare. But there is a whole rich range of tones hidden in the grey tones, more implied than apparent. What we know is enough to say by hint.
