Before humans learned to weave, birds built their nests. Felting, in turn, is based on the observed properties of sheep’s wool. Many crafts that we today perceive as exclusively human skills originated from the observation of non-human forms of existence and biological processes.

The exhibition Forgotten Nest presents a collaborative project by sisters Anna and Kateřina Šípová, who, through a site-specific textile installation, explore the relationship between space, craft, and the reinterpretation of the origins of human culture. How can we retell the origins of human culture not as a story of heroic conquest of nature, but as a history of our relationship with it?

They build on the now-neglected tradition of textiles in public spaces and restore to this medium the place it once held to a greater extent. They encourage the reestablishment of a half-forgotten relationship between the human observer and their surroundings.
